While Peter was preaching about Christ in the house of Cornelius, the Holy Spirit came on all those who heard the message, including Gentiles (non-Jews). When Peter saw that they too were baptized by the Holy Spirit, he also had them baptized in the water. When Peter went back to Jerusalem, he was questioned by the other apostles and brothers in Jerusalem. According to the Jewish tradition, Jews were not supposed to eat with the uncircumcised, let alone preach to them. Peter explained to them the vision seen at Cornelius's house and how the Holy Spirit worked. When they heard these things, they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, 侻o then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.(Acts 10:4448; 11:118)
