Some of the Jews in the council formed a conspiracy and bound themselves with an oath to kill Paul. They came to the chief priests and elders who agreed with them to have Paul killed in an ambush before he could arrive for questioning. The son of Paul䏭 sister heard of this plot, and he went into the barracks to tell Paul. Then Paul informed the commander about the ambush. The commander wrote a letter to Felix the governor, telling him that Paul was accused concerning questions of Jewish law, but had nothing charged against him that deserved death. He sent soldiers to have Paul and the letter brought to Felix in Caesarea.

Under armed escorts, Paul was brought to Antipatris and then to Caesarea. Felix the governor read the commander's letter, confirmed Paul's birth place (to make sure if he had jurisdiction) and said, 𦔒 will hear you when your accusers arrive. And he commanded that Paul be kept in Herod䏭 Palace and not in prison (Acts 23:1235).
