Readily Receive the Word

Due to the riot at Thessalonica, the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea.

The Bereans feared God. Paul and Silas preached in the synagogue of the Jews. They received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out if what Paul said was true. Therefore many of them believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and men. But when the Jews from Thessalonica learned that Paul was preaching the word of God at Berea, they went there too, agitating the crowds to hinder the gospel from spreading. Immediately, the believers sent Paul to the coast to sail to Athens. Paul wanted Silas and Timothy to stay at Berea and meet him later in Athens.
