The Holy Spirit Builds the Church Glorious Holy Spirits Rebuilds the Church
After His resurrection, the Lord Jesus was on earth with the disciples for forty days. He commanded them to wait for the promised Spirit. He said that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them. Together, they were built into the body of Christ�𤴆he church, testifying for the resurrection of Jesus Christ as a body.
Sure enough, after the Lord ascended to heaven (returned to the Father), He sent down the promised Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit filled the disciples. At that point, a new era was born, and the New Testament era began.
When the day of Pentecost came, the disciples were all gathered together in Jerusalem. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest upon each of them. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues. This tongue utterance was the sign of the coming of the Holy Spirit. It also indicated that the disciples had been baptized with the Holy Spirit.
This scene astonished the Jews who came to Jerusalem from every nation under heaven. Apostle Peter stood up, raised his voice, and testified for the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He concretely pointed out the way to receiving the salvation of Jesus Christ:
That day, about 3,000 people accepted the truth preached by the apostles. They devoted themselves to the apostles' teachings and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. The first church established by the glorious Holy Spirit was born, Church of Jerusalem. (Refer to Acts 1 and 2.)
Thereafter, the disciples went everywhere to preach the gospel�𤴆he salvation of Jesus Christ. God confirmed their preaching with miracles and wonders. More and more people believed and turned to the Lord. God�䏭 word continued to increase and spread, from Judea to the entire Roman Empire. All those who accepted this truth were built together into the church. Every local church was named after its locality to bear the testimony of sanctification to the Lord in different places, such as the Church of Corinth, Church of Ephesus, Church of Galatia, Church of Smyrna��. Apart from these names (that were based on the names of the localities), there were no other names. So, there were no denominations in the era of the pristine church. They were only churches that accepted the full truth of blood, water, and Holy Spirit preached by the apostles. They were all built on this foundation (the full truth). They were continuously perfected by the apostles and other ministers until they all came to the unity of the faith, and testified for the Lord as a congregation. (See Ephesians 2:18��22; 4: 11��13.)
